Michelle Buck

Clinical Professor of Leadership

Michelle L. Buck is Clinical Professor of Leadership at the Kellogg School of Management, and Adjunct Lecturer in the School of Communication, at Northwestern University. For over 25 years, she has been passionate about expanding possibilities for individuals, teams and organizations by teaching leadership and negotiation. Her areas of specialization include leading with vision and purpose through narrative and storytelling; speaking up, courageous conversations and conflict transformation; and arts-based experiential learning, using Argentine tango, Afro-Caribbean percussion ensemble and photography to teach leadership and collaboration.

In addition to her teaching, Professor Buck has served as Kellogg’s first Director of Leadership Initiatives from 2006-2013, and continues to serve as an academic director of numerous executive programs. She has worked with leaders in private, public, family business and nonprofit organizations globally. Her work focuses on designing innovative, inspiring, and important learning experiences that transform lives by providing purpose, passion, and possibility, and that transform the world by developing authentic, courageous and creative leaders. Her work has been profiled in Brené Brown's best-selling book, Braving the Wilderness.

Professor Buck has received teaching awards from MBA students at Washington University in St. Louis and twice at McGill University in Montreal. Her PhD and MA are in Social Psychology from Princeton University and she has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Michigan.
