Associate Director and Assistant Teaching Professor, Data Science

I serve as Associate Director and Assistant Teaching Professor in the new Data Science program at Mississippi State University. In this role, I'm helping to develop cutting-edge coursework, labs, and initiatives that help students not only learn the analytical side of data science, but also gain the broad perspective necessary to build smart systems that improve human life. My personal data science interest is in natural language processing and the digital humanities.

Between 2012 and 2022, I managed a university research center team that creates beautiful, simple-to-use web and mobile software that works strategically with data in the digital government arena. Our subject matter interest is generally workforce and economic development. I also did quite a bit of writing: grants, strategic plans, and system design documents. Between 2014 and 2022, I have worked in small teams to write grant proposals that have brought over $28M to Mississippi.
