The day after my graduation I took an opportunity to move abroad and start my career in a different country. The challenges were many: get used to a foreign language and a different culture, new technologies and the somewhat fast-slow-fast rhythm of a start-up company. Fast foward eight years, I couldn't be happier about my choice. I've grown up with the company and played different roles along the way: analyst, developer, architect, manager, salesman, partner. But while still happy I wondered what other choices did I had in front of me, and what would be the challenges that would come with them. I decided to specialize in the niche segment of databases and performance optimization and spent the following years working for a global leader in consulting services around MySQL and open source software. My work experience revolves mainly around the architecture, deployment and maintenance of IT infrastructures based on Linux, open source software and a layer of server virtualization. From the basic services such as DHCP & DNS to the integration with Microsoft systems with SAMBA. For a while I focused on identity management systems, digging information from corporate databases and engineering a set of rules and conditions that culminated in the creation and management of user accounts in LDAP directories. I've done some work with thin-clients using LTSP and LTSP-Cluster, a modified version to scale the technology to support hundreds of clients. Later I've worked with the architecture and deployment of infrastructures using configuration management tools such as Bcfg2 (similar to Cfengine and Puppet), in Ubuntu and CentOS environments. More recently the focus has been purely on MySQL and performance optimization, and a bit of MongoDB as well.I've worked remotely for the past 8 years and have a great amount of experience making the best of that situation, keeping a close contact with my co-workers and serving our clients with care and passion.
