Bradley Karlin

VP and Executive Medical Director, Behavioral Health

Dr. Karlin is a national leader in transforming and innovating behavioral health care in large public and privat health care systems. He currently serves as Vice President and Executive Medical Director of Behavioral Health for Highmark Health, the third largest health care delivery and financing system in the nation. In this role, he serves as clinical lead for the enterprise-wide transformation of behavioral health care. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and serves as Scientific Advisor to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Dr. Karlin is a Past President of the Society of Clinical Psychology and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. He previously served for over 7 years as National Mental Health Director for Psychotherapy and Psychogeriatrics for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). In this role, he led the nation’s largest implementation of more than 15 evidence-based psychological treatments and the establishment of new models of care as part of the transformation of the VA mental health care system to an evidence-based and recovery-oriented system of care. Dr. Karlin is the author of more than 100 publications and is the recipient of numerous national awards for his work to transform mental health and dementia care in large public and private systems, including the inaugural Award for Outstanding Contributions to Continuing Professional Development in Psychology from the American Psychological Association (APA), a Certificate of Commendation from the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Outstanding Administrator Award from the VA section of APA, the Spotlight Award from the APA Division of Psychologists in Public Service, and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
