The public sector is a key target for cyber criminals, and an agency’s vulnerability to attack continues to increase as reliance on digital practices continues to rise. However, following existing cybersecurity guidelines and embedding Zero Trust principals, government agencies can limit the movements of attackers or even shut them out entirely, creating a more secure network. Zero Trust is a security framework requiring all users, whether inside an agency’s network or not, to be authenticated, authorized, and continuously validated for security before being granted access to applications and data. Zero Trust is an ongoing process requiring continued refinement as each agency’s business requirements and subsequent technology shifts occur. As a result, following existing cyber security procedures and Zero Trust guidelines has left some agencies still in the planning stages of Zero Trust implementation. The Cybersecurity & Zero Trust @930gov conference program will examine the alignment of existing government cybersecurity initiatives with Zero Trust guidelines to deliver improved security to government agencies.
